Work toward constructing a memorial honoring Brazoria County veterans has moved forward with the approval of moving tree stumps and an Avaya PBX console to make way for placing the Ring of Honor on the grounds of the county courthouse in Angleton.

The two pecan trees which have been removed will be replaced with four new trees to be planted by the Ring of Honor Committee in various locations within the county.

Commissioners Court has also approved minor changes in the memorial's design. Larger bases for the two statues that will be the centerpiece of the project will require a slight adjustment in their position, Brazoria County Veteran's Service Officer John Jerabeck said.

These statues will depict Clarence Sasser, a Congressional Medal of Honor winner from Brazoria County, and a Gold Star Mother.

The Ring of Honor, which will list each of the county's veterans who have been killed in action from World War I to the present, is being funded primarily by donations.
