County asked to prioritize boat rampPosted Monday, August 18, 2008
Reconstruction of a boat ramp at the SH 35 bridge at the Brazos River near West Columbia is needed, a grant has provided funding for the project, and it should be done soon, according to David Pope, who made the request in an appearance before Brazoria County Commissioners Court. ![]() The boat ramp at that location was destroyed during the four-year construction project on SH 35, Pope said. At that time state highway officials indicated that it would be rebuilt once the highway work at that site was completed. A $275,000 grant was approved to rebuild the ramp, Pope said, but "now some want to change this." Pope asked that commissioners court "get involved in this and put it on your agenda." He had worked with Mark Hanson, former director of the County Parks Department, to accomplish the project, Pope said, and urged that the county's new parks director, G. Richard Hurd, who began work Aug. 13, also spearhead the project and make it "a top item" on his agenda. "We want access to the river restored," Pope said, "We want a boat ramp." |
