Angleton and the surrounding area continue to repair, clean, re-open, restore and generally return to normal in the wake of Hurricane Ike. Following is information on the status of various local entities. The City of Angleton lifted its curfew Friday. The majority of the city has now regained power. TNMP officials continue to work on areas that have not been restored due to limbs and broken lines. ![]() A lineman works on a transformer behind a home on Kyle. Normal trash service resumed Tuesday, Sept. 16 and debris removal has also begun throughout the city. For debris removal information, visit the city website at http://www.angleton.tx.us/. The city has suspended recycling to allow those employees to help with trash and debris collection, and will update residents as soon as recycling begins again. While supplies last, ice and water are still available at the Angleton Recreation Center, 1801 North Valderas. Drive-by hot meals are being served each day at Second Baptist Church, 1817 Shanks Road, from noon- 1 p.m. and 5 - 6 p.m. City officials ask that if you sustained any type of property damage during the storm, you e-mail the information to damage@angleton.tx.us with your name, address, a number and a short explanation. The city is collecting the data in response to a request from FEMA. If you need a blue tarp to cover damages to your home, call 888-766-3258. The Brazoria County Courthouse will reopen today, Monday Sept. 22, and and employees will resume their regular schedule. Jurors are to report to duty, as well. The Brazoria County Mosquito Control District will be aerially spraying Angleton and all areas of the county with until further notice. AISD students returned to schools Thursday, Sept. 18, although the district acknowledged not all of its families were impacted alike, and will not penalize children who do not report to school as a result of evacuation or hurricane-related circumstances. ![]() Angleton Christian School classes will resume Monday, Sept. 22, as well as daycare and after school care, at regular times. The school asks that families still experiencing extenuating circumstances that prevent their child's attendance contact the school at 849-4311 to let officials know, as such absences will be excused. Brazosport College will reopen on Monday, September 22. The college has full power and food service. The Bill and Julia May Children's Center also will be open Monday, September 22. Alvin Community College faculty and staff should report to work at 8 a.m. Tues., Sept. 23. Classes will resume Wednesday, Sept. 24. Visit www.alvincollege.edu for updates. ![]() The Port of Freeport was cleared to accept vessel traffic Wednesday, Sept. 17. Vessel movement will be restricted to daylight hours only and 36 ft. draft due to damaged range lights and shoaling at the channel entrance. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is requesting supplemental funding to address the emergency dredging needs at Texas ports affected by Hurricane Ike. Congressman Ron Paul’s office has been contacted and they are working with members of Congress to get this supplemental funding approved. The Port is open for business with normal operating hours. Traffic is temporarily being rerouted through Gate 4 as the power lines at the Port’s main entrance are still down. |
