AISD thanks its trusteesPosted Monday, February 8, 2010
![]() AISD School Board Trustee Nelson Bludau talks to a few second graders from Rancho Isabella Elementary during his visit to the campus in January. This was Bludau’s first time to experience School Board Recognition Month since he was voted onto the board in May 2009. During his visit, Bludau talked to students and staff at the elementary and even raced against some students in PE. Every January, Texas school districts take time to highlight the contributions of dedicated school board members who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing local school districts. This year, Angleton ISD employees and students celebrated School Board Recognition Month and its theme of “Hats Off to Texas Trustees” by raising their hats to the seven community members who serve on the AISD board. ![]() “I don’t know if people realize the responsibility that school board members bear and the challenges they sometimes have to face,” AISD Superintendent Dr. Patricia Montgomery said. “They make critical decisions that directly affect the future of our youth, and they put in countless hours to help ensure that our students are provided the best education possible that will lead them to success now and in the future.” ![]() While visiting students at Westside Elementary, AISD School Board Trustee Don Hood joins students during a group discussion. Hood talked to students about learning and about the school board. During classroom visits, he read to students, asked questions about lessons and joined in the learning process. Montgomery said the district likes to take this month to really show its appreciation to their board members. In addition to recognizing them at the monthly board meeting, AISD opened the doors of its campuses to the trustees. Board members visited different schools throughout the district, and each campus individually welcomed a board member with tours of classrooms and programs as well as with a breakfast or lunch with the staff. ![]() “I really enjoy visiting with the students and staff at the different campuses,” Board President Dr. Renard Thomas said. “This year as I toured Frontier Elementary, I had a chance to see how incredible our district really is and how hard our faculty and staff work to make sure the children of Angleton ISD are cared for both personally and academically. When I spoke—really spoke—with the students, I could tell they loved learning, and that’s a testament to our teachers because they make learning and education fun. I’m just happy to be a part of a group that is serving such a wonderful district.” ![]() AISD Board of Trustees: Renard Thomas, Ph.D., President – serving the district since 1983 Arthur Velasquez, Vice President – serving the district since 2007 Linda Winder, Secretary – serving the district since 2004 Don Hood – serving the district since 2009 Nelson Bludau – serving the district since 2009 Dennis Chaloupka – serving the district since 2009 Don Thompson – serving the district since 2009 |
