I concede

Editor's note: Susan is on vacation this week. She said so, from the top of the ladder in the bathroom, in that kind of sarcastic tone she uses.

There is no big party with red, white, and blue balloons and bunting (whatever that is). There is no adoring, but sad and disappointed crowd of supporters. No TV cameras and reporters waiting for the candidate to appear to announce he has had his butt kicked.

In fact the "Micheal Boddy for U.S. Congress" campaign lasted barely more than 48 hours from conception until Susan ruled me a "Ding Dong" and therefore ineligible to run. I think she might have done it sooner, since she edits my column, if she had thought anyone would take me seriously. Several folks did, however, including one of the Democratic Party's highest office holders in Brazoria County.

I guess that's good. Aside from the one serious issue, that of down-sizing Congress, my campaign would have been somewhat of a joke. Just an average guy, living in an average home, in an average neighborhood looking for a job with good health insurance.

In a debate with Ron Paul (if it had ever gotten that far) what would I have said is, there are millions of other folks across the country just like me. And I support the veterans, but not necessarily the wars.

We do need a Democrat to step up and I can't understand why people aren't lining up for such a cushy office. Starting pay is $174,000 dollars a year with benefits that are insane. It would be the perfect time for Dennis Bonnen to switch parties and run as a conservative Democrat, but I don't think that's going to happen.

I'd hate to think the Democratic Party doesn't have someone young, good looking, healthy and smart enough (all qualities I'm sadly lacking) to ambush Paul while he's running all over the country.

Is our only hope that he will retire undefeated before someone takes a chance? That's pretty pathetic.

I can't honestly say I don't like the man and don't admire some of the things he's done. He changed the landscape of the Republican Party with his last campaign. The Internet allowed him, as the underdog, to use his resources to great advantage.

And there was no question where he stood on the issues and whether or not he had the personal integrity to back up his positions, however bizarre they were.

So I guess there's not going to be the equivalent of a Jesse Ventura, a madman with no political experience, climbing over an incumbent whose name is known to practically every voter in the U.S. That is unless someone else who is younger, more average, healthier, smarter, and unemployed picks up the "I need a job" torch and runs with it.

I'll just continue to draw my disability benefits, because I'm not likely to get a lot healthier or any younger.

There is some hope, however, that I might get prettier, especially if Susan has her way with my diet.
