Religion: When Politicians Make Things Clear!

You have to love what’s happening in America these days. Just follow the news and you realize we no longer need Bible-trained pastors, or even the Bible, to clarify our faith! Not when our politicians are giving us such great insights!

Bill Clinton sort of got the ball rolling with his, “I never had sex with that woman!” And society hasn’t looked at truth the same ever since! Splitting hairs over the issues of sin is a new language science!

Then Hillary, in one glorious weekend, speaks from her TV pulpit and gives us her views on “Holy Spirit Life,” then throws down at least one shooter with the guys at the pub. Why couldn’t we see that what we say and what we do have no connection in the realm of faith?

Then Barack Obama took us to new vistas so that we could rightly divide the Word of Truth. Speaking in the context of his support for state recognized same sex unions, complete with benefits, he said: “If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans.”

All these years we have been struggling with the unwieldy Word of God as infallible truth, every word being inspired by God, each word vital for eternity – and all Mr. Obama had to do was show us cafeteria-style faith!

Wanting to help too, Michelle Obama took center stage at the Democratic National Committee’s Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council where she drew a connection between the struggles for gay rights and civil rights: “We are only here because of those who marched and bled and died, from Selma to Stonewall, in the pursuit of a more perfect union.” The inference being that the behavior issues (if one was to actually believe the Bible) of one very small special interest group are equal to the fight against the abhorrent treatment of an ethnic group immorally, unlawfully oppressed! (This one was a particular eye opener; paving the way for a flood of new bills to defend the rights of all behavior groups and secure government concessions! How about an entitlement titled: “Adulterers are people too!” It could defend their group rights and secure certain benefits, like a “hotel tax free day” because they use hotels a lot for their activities and the expense can be restrictive!)

So, from the definition of sin, to the verification of faith… from snacking on portions of the Word of God, to elevating stigmatized behavior to Constitutional rights… all we needed was a few good politicians to share their expertise on religion. I know a guy who drives a car – maybe now I’ll hire him to be my mechanic! But I had a guy who read a medical magazine once do my surgery and it didn’t work out so good… Maybe I’ll call a Senator for some advice! Naw!
