Life Foursquare, La Vida Regional continue relief workPosted Monday, October 6, 2008

In the weeks since Hurricane Ike made landfall, volunteers from Life Foursquare Church and La Vida Regional Cuadrangular Hispanic Church have delivered more than 200 tons of food, ice, water and hot meals to the people of Holiday Lakes and the surrounding areas of Long Pond, World Loop, and Planters Point. ![]() A man returns with relief supplies to his trailer without power in Holiday Lakes. ![]() La Vida Regional pastor Alex Montealegre said his church “adopted” those towns a year ago as its Missions Field, and have been working with them on many levels. “Most of these little towns are populated by people who fall under the poverty level,” Montealegre said in an Oct. 3 letter to his parishioners. “Many families have not worked in 3 weeks or more and have no resources. There is a lot of home and mobile home damage … There are hundreds of babies and small kids.” Multiple truckloads of food, water and supplies, much of it donated by World In Need, have been distributed by teams from Life Foursquare and La Vida Regional already, and the churches still are soliciting, processing and distributing supplies to needy areas. ![]() Cere Muscarella (far right), pastor of Angleton's Life Foursquare Church, and volunteer prepare a hot meal for residents of the distressed subdivisions. ![]() Beginning last weekend, Montealegre said his teams are spreading their ongoing disaster relief work to Surfside and Freeport, first with relief teams and supplies, and then with home repair and reconstruction, and food banks. The churches still need donations of construction materials, trucks, and money to continue their efforts. Those interested should call 979-583-1412. |
