Geraldine Sam, first ever African-American mayor of La Marque, served as the grand marshall of the Brazoria County Juneteenth parade held in Angleton on Saturday afternoon.

The Smith Family of Angleton stakes out a good view of the Juneteenth parade on the back of their pickup. From the left are Michelle Smith with her god-daughter Heaven Smith, age nine months, Saniah Williams, Smith's granddaughter, Dakarius Smith, her son, and Robert Smith, her husband.

Folks attending the parade sought out what little shade there was near the intersection of Mulberry and Walker.

Vernor Materials provided an antique fire truck for the parade.

A van from Angleton's Head Start program poses an interesting question, in light of the election of President Obama, the first African American President of the United States. His election was a part of the fulfillment of Dr. Martin Luther King's dream.
