Bobby Jones, an Information System Specialist at Brazosport College, was recently honored with the prestigious Purple Heart Medal for his heroic service in the Army.

Jones served with the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery of 4th Infantry Division of Fort Hood Texas. He served in the Army from October of 2001 to July of 2005, with 11 months of this time in Iraq.

During his tour of duty in Iraq, Jones was wounded as a result of hostile actions. His unit came under attack and an IED exploded next to his vehicle. Jones received injuries to his hand and legs, which subsequently resulted in his discharge.

Before Bobby joined the military, he graduated from Brazosport College in 2001 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Technology.

Once in the Army, Jones was trained as a Signal Support System Specialist, using his knowledge from Brazosport College.

“The knowledge I gained from Brazosport College helped in keeping me a step ahead of my comrades,” said Jones.

Following his discharge from the Army, Bobby joined Brazosport College in December as an Information System Specialist.

“BC is a great place to work. I worked here prior to my enlistment as a student worker,” said Jones.

Bobby is currently working on his Bachelors degree in Computer Information Services with a specialty in Computer Forensics at DeVry University Online. He plans to graduate this August.
