Micheal,

I'd like to respond to the letter from Mr. Browning about City Hall's "narrow vision". It seems we have a failure to communicate. The City is trying to become "Internet savvy" and we do have a web site, www.angleton.tx.us . Some of your question could be answered by browsing that site and if they aren't you have e-mail addresses for all council members, department heads and the city manager. If you don't get a response please let me know.
I looked at the material Micheal has posted on the City and it is pretty good. I tend to agree that local news coverage is lacking. We try to clue the Facts in on things, but they won't let us write the articles for them (I've asked in the past). We often don't have a reporter at our meetings. Our monthly meeting is the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in City Hall. Agendas are posted on the web site, as are all special meetings and meeting of our various boards. We'd love to have the company.
As to your specifics, briefly, we do a lot other than attend openings.
Two projects, vision related, that you might be interested in are our new Comprehensive Plan and our Development Code Committee. Our Comprehensive Plan was written by a diverse committee of citizens and city officials and is available at our web site. The Development Code Committee is currently updating our zoning codes and will address landscaping and signage after that is completed. I'm not sure which elder care project you are writing about, both are private developments, one is waiting on government funding cycles and the other was projected to open in the future at the Jamison Medical complex. Patti Worfe, our Economic Development Director, is in communication with both of these developers. We do have incentives to offer for the Intermedics facility and a group is currently looking seriously at the facility. Highways 35 and 288 are TX DOT roads, an update is planned for 35 and 288 is showing the signs of growth in Angleton.
I would hope that any member of our community would e-mail Council members with questions or problems. I believe all of our numbers are listed in the phone book as well. I know I'd love to hear from you and answer any questions you have.
