Cameron Alexander Brown

Cameron Alexander Brown, 21, of Angleton, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008 in San Marcos.

Cameron was born July 11, 1987 in Houston, Texas to Mark and Teresa Terrell Brown. He was a 2006 graduate of Angleton High School and attended college at Texas State University in San Marcos. Cameron’s passions were music, sports and martial arts.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Garrett Brown of Angleton; and grandparents Ray and Sonja Terrell of League City and John Clifford Brown of Angleton. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Catherine Brown.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home. Private interment will be at a later date.

Maria Ambrosia Ozuna

Maria Ambrosia Ozuna, 78, of Angleton, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008.

Maria was born December 7, 1927 in McAllen, Texas to Felipe and Estefona Cantu. Her parents, brother, grandson and great-grandson preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Juan Ozuna of Angleton; son Ramiro Ozuna of Angleton; daughters Dora Garcia of McAllen, Sylvia Ozuna of Pasadena and Oralia Garcia of Lafayette, Louisiana; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 8, 2008 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home.

Brent Aaron Smith

Brent Aaron Smith was born December 3, 1982, to Stephen Blake Smith and Linda Goodson Brumfield. He left this world on October 3, 2008.

Brent is survived by his daughters, Paige Nicole and Brooklyn Erin, mother Linda Goodson Brumfield and husband Marty Brumfield, father Stephen Blake Smith and wife Susan Smith, brother Ryan Smith and wife Penny Smith, grandparents Frank and Imogene Smith and grandfather Milton Goodson, Jr, all of Angleton, TX. He also is survived by nephews Trevor and Carson, and niece Madeleine, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Brent was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Leta Goodson.

Brent grew up in Angleton, TX where he attended school. He was involved with sports and excelled in this area. After school he was employed in the chemical industry. A loving father, son and brother, Brent will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Rodney Bowman officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m at Palms.

Alice E. Knowles

Alice E. Knowles, 88, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 2, 2008 after a recent diagnosis of cancer. She survived a near fatal automobile accident in March of this year. She aggressively worked her way back through inpatient rehabilitation. She was seen walking the block with her walker daily in August. She loved to be outdoors mowing the lawn, painting the house and raking leaves. She loved to make people laugh and all her health care providers called her “cute” and wanted to adopt her. She was strong willed and self-reliant.

Alice was born in Velasco, Texas November 5, 1919. She retired from the Dow Hospital in the 1950s . She then moved to Galveston to take care of her mother Ethel and step-father. She attended Central Methodist Church for over 50 years. She lived this last year in Angleton with her sister Lee.

She is survived by her sister Lee Whatley; nieces Linda Whatley, Norma Jean Blair and Betty Sue Court; nephews Tommy Knowles and Johnny Knowles; and dear friend Martha Ward of Austin, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Randy Whatley brother-in-law B.C. Whatley, and brother T.J. Knowles.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bonnie Cowing officiating. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m until service time on Monday. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests donations may be made to the Brazoria County SPCA, P.O. Box 2312, Angleton, Texas 77515.

Floyd Merl “Doc” Ward

Floyd Merl “Doc” Ward was born on September 24, 1922 in Gainesville, Texas. On October 2, 2008, he passed from this world to his heavenly home.

Doc earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University in 1948. He moved to Angleton to start a veterinary practice in 1952. For fifty years, he became an extended family member in many Angleton homes by caring for their pets.

Doc is survived by his wife, Tena Ward; their daughter, Tracy Ward; his daughter, Karen Bogue; and grandchildren Stephanie, Jarrod, Mason, and Kerry.

A visitation will be held at Palms Funeral Home on Sunday, October 5t from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a memorial service on Monday, October 6t at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Angleton.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to IPH Hospice in Angleton or to the First Presbyterian Church in Angleton.

William (Bill) Joseph Sylvester Sr.

William (Bill) Joseph Sylvester Sr., 78, of Danbury, Texas, went to be with the Lord on 1 October 2008. He was born in Huntsville, Texas on February 10, 1930.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Chessie Eleanor Sylvester, and his sister Barbara Anderson, and daughter-in-law Linda Sylvester, who await him in heaven. He is survived by his brother, Allen Sylvester, and sisters Ollie Sue Bounds and Dorothy Northcutt.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He served his nation joining the Army Air Corps in 1945 and later served in the United States Air Force. He was initially stationed in Misawa Japan, during the US Occupation of Japan, and later he fought in the Korean Conflict, earning one Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. After his service in the military he worked for the Rockadyne US Space program in Los Angeles, California as a welder, the Bureau of Indian Affairs trading post in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and had a long career as a Pipe Fitter in Local 211, holding many unique certifications, using those skills at the South Texas Project in Wadsworth.

Many years ago, Mr. William Sylvester, a staunch Democrat, was selected to represent his local district at the Democratic National Convention held in San Antonio, TX. He was an avid automotive repairman, hunter, fisher, and relic collector. Whether it was repairing cars, organizing fishing outings, or helping a neighbor or a kind deed it was his for the giving without seeking gain or reward. He was the man God created him to be and the friend that anyone is fortunate to have known.

Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 48 years, Evelyn Elizabeth Sylvester of Danbury, Texas; his children William J. Sylvester Jr., John H. Sylvester and wife Mary Ann, Patrick K. Sylvester and close friend Kathryn Scopel and her son Patrick, Tammy R. Sylvester, Molly K. Salinas and husband Martin of Danbury, TX, and Judy L. Austin and husband Larry of San Antonio, TX. Surviving grandchildren include Tim Sylvester of Cypress TX, Shawn Kappes and wife Lindsay of Richmond TX, Scott Kappes of Houston, TX, William J. Sylvester III, and wife Lesile of Angleton, TX, Chris Orlea and wife Malinda of Lake Jackson, TX, Nick Orlea of Danbury TX, Sheldon Shed of Pearland TX, and seven great-grandchildren. Special family friends who he took in as his very own include Johnny Burch and James Sledge.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Palms Funeral Home, 2300 E. Mulberry, Angleton TX at 2 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2008. Burial will follow at the Danbury TX cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Sylvester and William Sylvester, III, Shawn and Scott Kappes, and Chris and Nick Orlea. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Burch, Eric Clinton, Ryan Brown, and Sheldon Shed.

San Pablo “Paul” Segura Jr.

San Pablo “ Paul” Segura Jr. of Angleton went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2008. He was born in Freeport, Texas on November 11, 1961.

He graduated from Angleton High School in 1980 and was a self-employed upholsterer. He loved working on the “big” boats. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sports fan. He loved the Astros, Texans, Rockets, Car Racing and Fishing. He was also a local D.J. and formed CD Vibrations. He enjoyed all the special events that he spun the music for. He had a sharp sense of humor that will forever leave a memory etched in our hearts. He will always be loved and remembered.

He is survived by his parents, San Pablo “Paul” Segura Sr. and Eloise H. Segura of Angleton; son Jordan Segura of Angleton; brother Julian Segura and wife Debra of Stafford; sister Sandra Ramos and husband Noe of Angleton. He leaves behind two special nieces, Kasi Ramos of Angleton and Evelyn Segura of Stafford and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 at Palms.

Pallbearers will be Mike Luna, Chris Longoria, Tony Parten, Ricky Gonzales, Gerald Gonzales and Lupe Damian. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Segura, Julian Segura, Noe Ramos, Vincent Perez, Kasi Ramos, Evelyn Segura and friends from Icehouse Bar and Grill, Paradise Sports Bar and Bridge Harbor Yacht Club.

Willie Lazaro Robles

Willie Lazaro Robles was born May 28, 1914 in Roma, Starr County, Texas to Juan Robles and Delfina Garcia. He passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at his Angleton residence.

Willie resided in Wharton, Texas until 1965. He worked at the Alamo Lumber Company in Wharton, Texas. He along with other families helped to build Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in 1948 with the assistance of Father Joseph Dillon and Father Max Murphy. He was a member of The Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and Cursillista.

Willie married Cruz Alcorta on October 14, 1940 in 1948 and their marriage was blessed in the newly erected church. From this union, 10 children were born. In 1965, he moved to Angleton, Texas where he was employed by Robertson Tank Lines until 1975. The family followed him in 1966. In Angleton he and his family attend Santos Tomas de Aquino Catholic Church; after it’s closure they attended St. Basil – St. Tomas. Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church will be his final celebration of life.

He enjoyed fishing and watching the Astros games on television. He was a very compassionate person, his family always came first and he always told the children to study hard so that they could have a better way of life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Rodolfo “Rudy” Robles and daughter, Candi Rodriguez. Willie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cruz of Angleton, children Andrew Robles of Angleton, Ramon Robles and wife Martha of Texas City, Gloria Soliz and husband Raymond of Angleton, Alonzo Robles of Houston, Dora Robles and husband Antonio of Katy, Janie Valadez and husband Pete of Clute, Frank Robles and wife Hope of Angleton, Margaret Ferrel and husband Louis of Houston and sister, Angelita Robles Davila of Lockhart, Texas.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Palms Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Angleton, Texas on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 10 a.m. with burial to follow in Angleton Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Cierra Jane Valadez, Rodolfo Robles, Jr., Antonio Robles, III, Raymond Soliz, Jr., Ramon Robles, Jr., Philip Andrew Rodriguez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Willie’s 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Ruth Bernice Gerrard

Ruth Bernice Gerrard, 87, of Angleton passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in a Houston hospital. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday, from 6-8 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home with a Christian Wake scheduled at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Chesley, Ontario Canada.

Ruth was born June 19, 1921 in Toronto, Canada and had lived in Angleton since 1982. She was a member of ACTIONS, and of FOLKS at the Angleton Recreation Center. Ruth was a devoted member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she was active in the Golden Stars and OWLS.

Her husband, Morris Gerrard, preceded her in death in 1982. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Gerrard of Angleton; son Douglas Gerrard of Lufkin; brother Bill Young of Lewiston, NY; sisters Patty Walker and Betty Metzler of Olcott, NY, Phyllis Bechtel and May D’Anna of Niagara Falls, NY; grandchildren Kenneth Gerrard of San Antonio and Jennine Gerrard of Teaneck, NY, and great-granddaughter, Sofia Check.

In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
