Shutterbugs focus of photography coursesPosted Monday, June 23, 2008
“Anyone who has taken the ‘perfect picture’ only to have it come out all wrong or just wants their pictures to come out better, would get a lot out of the photography classes we’re offering this Fall,” Gemi Powell, Brazosport College Community Education Programs Director, said about the upcoming classes offered as part of the college’s Community Education schedule. ![]() “Introduction to Photography” gives students a basic understanding of what goes into taking a good picture including film selection, lighting, exposure settings and digital correction and enhancement of images. Student photographers are required to bring their own digital or film camera with manual aperture and shutter speed controls to use during class, and will use them for photo assignments completed outside of class. “The Intro to Photography class has been completely reformatted for Fall,” said Powell. “It will focus more on camera operation, picture outcome, and giving students a good foundation for enjoying photography as a hobby or pursuing it further into a career.” Those who already have a basic understanding of their camera can expand their skills by enrolling in “Photo Editing and Creative Imaging with Adobe Photoshop Elements.” This course will teach photographers how to perfect, transform and organize their photos using the computer software popular with many professionals. “This course covers editing techniques as easy as one-click fixes and as advanced as photo enhancement, special effects, restoration and graphics. Students can correct photos to produce crisp, clean images that print well,” Powell stated. ![]() Photography classes meet at Brazosport College’s Lake Jackson CE Center, according to Powell. “We are fortunate to have these classes taught by highly-experienced and talented local photographers, Ed Christman and Eddie Lincecum. They give real-life insight into the tricks and pitfalls of being a great photographer,” she said.
