Photo by Nell Blakely ![]() March is Texas History Month and in recognition of that the Brazoria County Historical Museum has opened a new exhibit entitled "Literary East Texas." Produced by Humanities Texas, this traveling exhibit recognizes and honors the work of twenty-five authors who have lived in and written about the eastern half of the state. Passages from these authors’ works are illustrated with photographs taken especially for this exhibition. This variety of East Texas fiction provides beautiful scenery from the Red River through the Piney Woods and down to the Gulf Coast as well as interesting milieus of agricultural, petrochemical and urban settings. The goals of Literary East Texas are to encourage readers to discover and rediscover writers of the region, to match the words of these authors with photographs of the people and landscape they described, and to honor representative writers of the region. Humanities Texas is the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The exhibit will be available to the public until March 31.
