The 2009 Brazoria County Day in Austin committee includes, from left, Brett Binkley, Woody Owens, Lance Olshovsky, co-chairwoman Deana Lesco, Mike Merkel, co-chairman Kevin Cole, Wayne Shaw, Wanna Cox, Ron Brazil, Sandra Shaw, Connie Elies, Connie Webb, Debbie Pennington, Donna Coleman, Dan Swords, Ken Corley and Gary Bucek. Not pictured are: RoVin Garrett, Beth Journeay, Carol Artz, Sue Ellen Netherly, Rita Terrell, Steve Carroll, Randy Jones, Roy Edwards, Corky Melass and John Brau.

Brazoria County Day in Austin 2009 has been scheduled for March 10 at Fiesta Gardens near Town Lake, committee members recently announced.

The bi-annual event is an opportunity for county residents to meet with their elected leaders and state officials in Austin. It has taken place during every regular legislative session since 1973, so 2009 will be the 19th year.

In the past, Brazoria County Day has been the most attended county day, largely because of the World’s Largest Shrimp Cocktail, which included 1,800 pounds of shrimp in 2007.

A block of rooms at host hotel Hyatt Town Lake have been reserved at a reduced rate for county residents.

Planners urge making reservations early by calling (512) 477-1234 as the rooms fill quickly.

If your civic group would like to book a speaker with a video presentation about Brazoria County Day or to inquire about underwriting opportunities, please call (979) 848-0560.
