The Brazosport College Choir and Brazosport Young Peoples Chorus will share a fall concert, “Fall Potpourri” of varied choral styles on at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 in the performance hall of The Clarion at Brazosport College. ![]() The Brazosport College Chamber is one of four vocal ensembles at the college. It is an auditioned group of 18 singers under the direction of Rodney Mason, Director of Choral Activities, with Matthew Todd as piano accompanist. Their program will include: “A Joyful Alleluia,” by Gordon Young as the opener; “Aus meiner Sunden Tiefe” (How Deep has been my Sinning), a motet by Renaissance master composer, Orlando di Lasso; “Intersession in Late October,” the fifth movement of contemporary composer Morton Laurdisen’s setting of a song cycle entitled Mid-Winter Songs, poems by Robert Graves (1895-1985); and a traditional spiritual, “I Want Jesus to Walk With Me,” arranged by Rollo Dilworth in a juxtaposition of gospel and modern vocal jazz with a quasi-New Orleans style accompaniment. The Brazosport Young Peoples Chorus, directed by Charla Cary with piano accompaniment by Rodney Mason, is a choir made up of third to eighth grade students from the Brazosport area. Their program will include: “Little Miss Muffet-in the style of Handel,” a setting of the traditional nursery rhyme by Hal Hopson; “An Evening Falls,” vocal melody by Gordon Binkerd over piano part based on “How Long, How Long Blues” by Leroy Carr, as played and recorded by Jimmy Yancey (1929); “Yonder Come Day” an arrangement by Judith Tucker of the tradition Georgia Sea Island spiritual; and “I am His Child” the choruses theme song with rotating solos at each performance. The concert is free and the public is invited. |
